FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Why would you do this?
A: Many reasons. We were tired of getting music recommendations from corporations. We like zines, but think that making all the pages as well as the front and back cover every month seems like too much work, so we decided to outsource most of the work. We have a bunch of friends who like cool music, and seemed interested in recommending more. Mostly, we thought it sounded fun.
Q: But how do I listen to these playlists?
A: That's up to you. You could check out every CD each track appears on from the public library. You could try Youtube. There are all manner of streaming services. Piracy is an option that many choose. You could call your local radio station and try making requests (not sure if this will work.) You could learn to burn CDs, or make friends with someone who does, to hang onto your favorite playlists. Unfortunately Offbeat Oddio is incapable of beaming the songs straight into your mind via psychic mindlink, but if we could, we would.
Q: What musical genres are allowed?
A: Allowed? We aren’t the boss of you. Submit whatever you want! There are no restrictions on what genre you can recommend. Send us your favorite metal, classical, pop, world music, folk songs, yes, even jazz. As long as people made the music, we’re down.
Q: What if I want to submit music made by elephants, or my cat?
A: It sounds like you have a really special cat! And that you like being difficult. Many such cases. We're giving you a tentative go-ahead on the animal-powered music front. Just don't abuse this power.
Q: Who runs Offbeat Oddio?
A: Wouldn't you like to know? Next.
Q: I didn't see my submission in the last issue. What happened to it?
A: We might have gotten more submissions than we had space for. Worry not! We keep all the submissions that get sent in, and put them in the rotation for every quarterly “freestyle” issue. Featured submissions are picked at random, but your submission will remain in the selection pool until it’s printed. If your submission is rejected and you submitted via email, social media, or any avenue that allows us to contact you, we will let you know that it was rejected and why. If you submitted it via some other means and we don't have your contact information, well, you'll just have to either follow up or wonder forever. If you are concerned that your submission didn’t reach us, contact us and we can confirm whether we received it.
Q: Does this zine cost money?
A: Offbeat Oddio is available for free online. Hip, hip... hooray! Paper copies do cost money, because we haven't figured out how to develop printer ink in-house at no cost. If you have any suggestions on that front, let us know! Purchasing information soon to come.
Q: What if I want to give you money, but I don't want a copy of the zine?
A: Suit yourself! We will be adding an online tip jar soon. You can keep your eyes peeled, if you want. Or don't, if that sounds a bit strenuous.
