ON CENSORSHIP

Listen, let's be honest. We here at Offbeat Oddio don't necessarily like all the music we hear. Some of it bores us. Some of it offends us. Some of it reminds us of people we would rather not think about. Some music we think is vapid, or soulless, or just plain bad. Some music is made by people we think should go rot in a hole. Sometimes people recommend music that makes us think they have lost every last one of their marbles.

We're frequently forced to concede that much of what is good or bad in music is a matter of taste and context. It is for that reason that we have elected to promise that all music made by people is permitted within this zine. This is not an a-political zine, but it is an anti-censorship zine. We promise you now that no submissions will be outright rejected for the content within the music itself (and if your submissions don't meet the submission requirements, we will let you know why we cannot print them.)

We encourage those submitting pages to title or describe their music recommendations in such a way that readers may be made aware of troubling themes, but we do not require it. So consider yourself warned: there could be all manner of challenging songs, made by challenging people, within the bounds of any issue of Offbeat Oddio. Listening to music is not the same as endorsing the statements therein or the creators of the track; if you are skeptical about the ethics of listening to music made by corrupt individuals, we recommend that you take care to see that you find a way to listen to the tracks that does not involve financially supporting that artist. Offbeat Oddio will not be outright endorsing (much less paying) any musicians. There have been many musical geniuses in the world, but in the end, all of them are merely people.

All that being said, the makers of this zine are queer, anti-capitalist, anti-fascist, and anti-AI, so if you feel that our politics might conflict, we encourage you to fuck off.

We do not promise to accept every submission, and reserve the right to reject submissions on the basis of personal misconduct (read: rudeness and bigotry) if we damn well want to. So don't test us. If you think this sounds like censorship... start your own zine.
